Childhood – Early Stage Trivia
Glenn Close was born on March 19, 1947 in Greenwich Connecticut, she is one off four children of surgeon William T. Close and mother Bettine Close.

She was 7, when the family joined a cult called Moral Re-Armament, which seeks to improve human society by providing dogmatic guidelines for better human behavior.
She was only 13, when her father formed a clinic in the Belgian Congo (now Zaire) for Moral Rearmament. Clenn and the other children were shuttled between Africa and boarding school in Switzerland.
She graduated in the year 1965 from Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, Connecticut.
After graduating, Close joined the conservative folk group Up With People. They toured the nation, providing sort of a traveling musical revival meeting, singing chipper songs appealing to the “traditional family values” set.
She studied Drama and Anthropology at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she earned a B.A. in 1974 and became a member of the Phi Beta Kappa society.

Glenn owns a bookstore, Poor Richards, and coffee shop, Leaf and Bean with her sister, Jessie near Bozeman, Montana.
She is a great baseball fan and sings the National Anthem for the New York Mets’ home opener every year.

She is no Cruella De Vil in real life. She has started a website called Fetchdog where part of the proceeds are donated to animal charities and she loves dogs.

Glenn debuted on Broadway was in The Phoenix Theatre’s production of Congrieve Love for Love in 1974. Her musical debutin wax in the Richard Rodgers-Sheldon Harnick show “Rex” as Mary Tudo that was in 1976. TV-movie debut was in “Too Far to Go” (NBC) in the year 1979.

Glenn Close first film was “The World According to Garp” in 1982 there she established herself as one of the finest performers, for which she earned the first Oscar nominations. She was cast as Robin Williams quirky mother, despite a mere five year age difference between them.

Close quickly became a top leading actress who eventually achieved infamy with her portrayal of a psychotic woman avenging a lost affair in one of the decade’s most notorious movies, “Fatal Attraction” in 1987.
It’s amazing that Glenn was actually the fourth choice to play Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction. The first choices were Debra Winger, Barbara Hershey, and Miranda Richardson. Now she is mostly known for playing “crazy woman” Alex Forrest that film.

Close has always being more than happy to oscillate from the big screen to television to Broadway, unlike most film stars, often even with more critical and awards success.
Comfortable shifting from television to film, Close gave a typically strong performance in the ensemble anthology “Nine Lives” (2005), playing a widowed mother whose life has been taken over by her precocious young daughter (Dakota Fanning).

After matriarchal supporting roles in “The Chumscrubber” and “Evening”, Close made a glorius return to series television with “Damages” (FX, 2007- ). There she plays the simultaneously revered and reviled Patty Hewes, a high-stakes litigator in New York City.
Close’s gritty portrayal earned the actress a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama and an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, both in 2008.
